Kit List

Be Prepared!

According to the current forecast for Sunday, you could be running in cool, damp conditions and we recommend you start thinking now about what you will wear. Here’s a list of kit essentials to ensure you’re well prepared. Think layers: The key to staying warm in cool temperatures is layering, so follow the advice below for a more enjoyable event experience. Layers at the start line: There is a baggage drop in the Sports Hall for all runners and also secure lockers in the Sports Centre for any valuables. To stay warm once at the start line, bring some warm ‘throwaway’ layers to keep you warm until just before the start of the race. We collect all discarded clothing and donate to local charities. Upper body layers: Consider wearing a long-sleeved base layer and/or windproof/waterproof jacket to ensure you stay comfortable once the race starts and provide some warmth and an additional layer of protection. Don’t forget, you can always take this off if you become too hot while you run but make sure it doesn’t obscure your race number and timing chip. Lower body layers: Consider wearing long running tights for the race. If you are planning to run/walk any of the race and think you might be out on the course for several hours, consider wearing an extra pair of tights or windproof/waterproof trousers. Headwear: A buff and hat will help to prevent heat loss. Faster runners may prefer to wear a headband to protect their ears. Gloves: A pair of gloves to keep your hands warm are essential. Socks: Wool socks if you have them (and you’ve tried them out in training) as they will feel warm even if your feet become wet. Remember a pair of warm, dry socks in your bag to change into at the finish! Faster runners: If you’ve trained in shorts and your club vest and are keen to stick to this arrangement on Race Day, there are some small tweaks you can make to your kit to add a little more protection. Consider wearing a base layer under your vest to keep your core warm and calf warmers on your legs. You could also wear a headband to keep your ears warm while you run. Layers for the finish: And don’t forget to bring warm clothes to change into once you finish. You can put these in your bag and leave at the baggage drop in the Sports Hall. We recommend you have some warm & dry clothes to change into, a warm jacket, money and post-race snacks/fuel. If you live in Scotland and need to stock up on any of these items, visit Run4It stores in Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Bridge of Allan, Glasgow, Giffnock and Edinburgh and don’t forget your ‘save 15%’ voucher!
